Hair Help

Urban Nature has services to help your damaged or slow
to grow hair…

We offer services to help restore a full head of healthy hair. This specialty service includes a stimulating wash with scalp massage and conditioning/corrective treatments. Use of a blend of herbs and oils will leave your hair and scalp feeling nourished, refreshed, and smelling great!

Locs need love and care…

We offer loc care to include a thorough wash, herbal infusion rinse, and palm roll with conditioning/corrective treatments as necessary. Grooming,
shaping, and strengthening thin/weak locs are also available. We do not
use beeswax, petroleum, or mineral oil products on locs. If your locs
were started with these products, we will use a detoxifier to cleanse
your hair and scalp.

Transitioning from chemicals or heat damaged to the natural…

Yes, we can help. Services are available for those who have made a commitment
to going natural and have a SIGNIFICANT amount of new growth. You must
have AT LEAST as much natural hair as relaxed hair and be willing to trim/cut
AT EACH VISIT. We can assist you with styling options to help ease the
transition.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does my hair have to be to start locs?

Your hair should be about 2 inches. Generally, starting
shorter than that requires more maintenance and limits your options in
terms of sizing the locs.  Back to Top

How do you start locs?

The technique used will depend on your hair’s length, texture and density. We may use
coils, palm roll, two strand twists, or plaits.

How long will it take my hair to loc?

It will depend on your hair texture, grooming practices, and how the locs were started. Generally speaking, it takes from a half year to a full year.

How often should I have my locs done?

This will depend on several factors (daily
routine, loc’s size, appearance preference, etc). Usually clients have
their locs groomed every 3-4 weeks.

Can I start locs with relaxer on the ends?

Locs are for natural hair! We start locs when all the hair is natural. Technically,
it can be done but the relaxed hair will hang straight on the ends of
your twists or coils.

My hair is relaxed but I want to go natural. What can I do?

Your regular stylist should be able to work with you while going into the process. (S)he may be able to do flat twists, straw/rod sets, cornrows, or braided styles in the beginning months. Extension
styles may be also be an option.

How long will it take for my relaxer to grow out?

Our hair grows at different rates. The average amount of growth is about ½ inch per month. Relaxer does not really grow out, your natural hair grows in. Chemically processed hair will either break off or need to be cut off.

Does swimming affect my locs?

The chlorine in water can dry the hair out and discolor your locs. Your
hair should be rinsed/cleansed after swimming. Try not to go swimming
more than a few times without having a full shampoo.
